Biohazard Redefined
10/2/2020 (Permalink)
The definition of biohazard - "a risk to human health or the environment arising from biological work, especially with microorganisms. Examples include human and animal blood, tissues, and certain body fluids, recombinant DNA, and human, animal or plant pathogens." In more layman terms, biohazardous waste is any waste contaminated with potentially infectious materials.
Mishandled biohazard waste poses a threat not only to healthcare professionals, patients, and local community members, it poses a significant threat to the environment. Biohazard waste that is not disposed of properly can end up in lakes, parks, and other wildlife refuges.
